Update regarding feasibility study for stadium expansion
The feasibility study is progressing well, however a project of this scale is complex and requires input from multiple stakeholders, in addition to the standard requirements such as architectural drawings, financial modelling, etc.
The local government amalgamation discussions have also clouded the project given there have been three potential councils that could be our future landlord and contributor. The WBA Board anticipates certainty in this regard in October 2014. This has pushed the finalisation of the feasibility study to the end of November 2014.
On the positive side, we have defined our design scope for an expanded stadium subject to the viability of the overall expansion, and anticipated the needs with other stakeholders coming into an expanded facility. The developers will meet with the architects and quantity surveyor regarding the proposed plans, and we anticipate a draft feasibility outcome in October.

Crime in and around the stadium
Parents and players and spectators, there have been a number of instances of theft in the past few months, both inside the stadium, and in the car park where cars have been broken into. While we have multiple cameras inside the stadium that can assist with police investigations, please note that external footage of the public car park outside is limited, and it is best not to leave valuables unattended (inside or outside the stadium). We have asked the Canning Security Services to step up their vigilance in the car park. Police have asked that all criminal activity be reported to 131444
Mouthguards - wear them!
Willetton Basketball strongly recommends that ALL basketball players (adults and children) play basketball wearing mouthguards. A mouthguard can protect against chipped, broken or lost teeth, bone damage to the jaw, or tissue damage. A custom fitted mouthguard is ideal, but a $10 basic guard available from a pharmacy or our canteen will give basic protection. Basketball can be high impact, and a mouthguard could protect against very expensive dental repair work.

Good spectator behaviour
The Willetton Way PARENTS CODE:
* ENJOY YOUR CHILD'S PARTICIPATION
* SUPPORT YOUR TEAM POSITIVELY
* RESPECT MATCH OFFICIALS
It's timely to remind all parents who spectate games that you are setting the example, not only for your own child, but to other peoples' children as well, on how to be a good sport. The definition of good sport differs from parent to parent, but does not include swearing at kids, coaches, other parents, referees.

Willetton Basketball club are fortunate to have secured Corpus Christi and All Saints College as training venues, to ensure that as many teams as possible, both Domestic and WABL have appropriate training facilities. It is vital that we respect the venues and the people who work there, so we ask that all players observe the following:
It is important that these rules are followed to ensure that the colleges continue to provide their facilities to us.
Congratulations to our WSBL Captain Mel Marsh!
An exciting new dynamic is being brought to Australia’s basketball coverage this year, with the first female sideline reporters in NBL history to be engaged in a regular capacity for its free-to-air broadcast.
In what is already being marked as the most talented NBL season in many years, the NBL will also be adding depth to its off-court line-up with the services of Melissa Marsh and Michelle Trewartha for the 2014/15 season.
Willetton Basketball Association (WBA) has grown its Junior Competition from 208 teams to 300+ teams in two years. To accommodate this growth our Junior competitions now take place at multiple venues. WBA also has strong Senior and Veterans Competitions to accommodate.
Abuse of referees
Players and parents and coaches please note that if there is an issue with the quality of refereeing during a game, they must bring their concerns to the referee supervisor on duty DURING the game so that appropriate action can be taken during a game. In addition, official complaints in writing can also be lodged, but it is in everyone's interests for referees to be coached on how best to referee while in a game.
