A big shout out to all of our volunteers
Today is International Volunteers Day. This is a wonderful opportunity to thank the countless hundreds of volunteers who make our club what it is today. From court sweepers to tribunal members, from merchandise coordinators to team scorers, our coaches, managers and everyone who gives up their time to make basketball at Willetton happen, thank you. Our club is fuelled by your time, commitment and dedication, and we are truly grateful.
MAP TO OTHER VENUES
We welcome all our domestic players and parents to the new season. This a reminder to check your fixtures as you may not be playing all your games at the Willetton Basketball Stadium. Attached is a map showing the major playing venues, and includes Courtside which is one of our major training venues. Also included is a detailed map of how to get to the AllSaints gym.
Crime in and around the stadium
Parents and players and spectators, there have been a number of instances of theft in the past few months, both inside the stadium, and in the car park where cars have been broken into. While we have multiple cameras inside the stadium that can assist with police investigations, please note that external footage of the public car park outside is limited, and it is best not to leave valuables unattended (inside or outside the stadium). We have asked the Canning Security Services to step up their vigilance in the car park. Police have asked that all criminal activity be reported to 131444
Hire of tables and chairs
The association has twenty tables and 200 chairs that can be hired to members for reasonable rates. Please contact the office with queries / bookings on 9310 3388
We wish all our members & families associated with Willetton Basketball Association a safe, relaxing, & joyous Festive Season.
It has been another successful year for our club, thanks to the combined efforts of all our players, coaches, managers, committee members, volunteers, staff, parents, supporters, and general friends of WBA Inc. Take a bow…..
Enjoy the break and rest up for an even better year ahead – it holds lots of promise & hope for us all.
Best wishes and we look forward to seeing you all in 2015

Game delays & issues with refereeing
Games cannot begin until both teams' scorers are in place. We ask all parents/scorers to please be at their computer before the start of the game to confirm their team members on court. Failure to do so results in delays to the start of games.
If there is an issue with refereeing on court, please bring it to the referee supervisor's attention during the game. It is far easier to address an issue during a game rather than after the fact. The referee supervisors wear apple green shirts and are responsible for managing the referees.
Congratulations to our WSBL Mel Marsh!
An exciting new dynamic is being brought to Australia’s basketball coverage this year, with the first female sideline reporters in NBL history to be engaged in a regular capacity for its free-to-air broadcast.
In what is already being marked as the most talented NBL season in many years, the NBL will also be adding depth to its off-court line-up with the services of Melissa Marsh and Michelle Trewartha for the 2014/15 season.
Good spectator behaviour
The Willetton Way PARENTS CODE:
* ENJOY YOUR CHILD'S PARTICIPATION
* SUPPORT YOUR TEAM POSITIVELY
* RESPECT MATCH OFFICIALS
It's timely to remind all parents who spectate games that you are setting the example, not only for your own child, but to other peoples' children as well, on how to be a good sport. The definition of good sport differs from parent to parent, but does not include swearing at kids, coaches, other parents, referees.
Willetton Basketball club are fortunate to have secured Corpus Christi and All Saints College as training venues, to ensure that as many teams as possible, both Domestic and WABL have appropriate training facilities. It is vital that we respect the venues and the people who work there, so we ask that all players observe the following:
It is important that these rules are followed to ensure that the colleges continue to provide their facilities to us.
2015 SBL Fixtures released
The State Basketball League fixtures for 2015 have been released and can be viewed at the link below.
Willetton Basketball strongly recommends that ALL basketball players (adults and children) play basketball wearing mouthguards. A mouthguard can protect against expensive dental repair work and mouth injuries. Recently an adult player was knocked and his teeth went through his lip, which would not have happened had he been wearing a mouthguard.
Basic protection can be provided by commercial, inexpensive mouthguards, although dentist-fitted are more effective. Mouthguards can be purchased from the stadium canteen or from most pharmacies.
Willetton Basketball Association (WBA) has grown its Junior Competition from 208 teams to 300+ teams in two years. To accommodate this growth our Junior competitions now take place at multiple venues. WBA also has strong Senior and Veterans Competitions to accommodate.
Abuse of referees
Players and parents and coaches please note that if there is an issue with the quality of refereeing during a game, they must bring their concerns to the referee supervisor on duty DURING the game so that appropriate action can be taken during a game. In addition, official complaints in writing can also be lodged, but it is in everyone's interests for referees to be coached on how best to referee while in a game.
Referee development opportunity
'Willetton Referee Development Program' is now open to all referees at Willetton who want to improve their officiating in a fun and interactive meeting each month. For more information please contact your referee supervisors.
